Chronic Hemolytic Anemia Due to Cold
A male, 47, developed chronic hemolytic anemia in association with hi9h titers of cold agglutinins in 1 966. His symptpm of the cold agglutinin syndrome began in 1 951 with cyanosis of the extremities nd face after exposure to cold. In 1 956, hemoglobinuna was first noted after chilling. In 1 962, the cold agglutinin titer was 1 : 1 6,000, and his red cells were coated with complement globulins...
متن کاملChronic hemolytic anemia due to a monoclonal IgG cold agglutinin with anti-Pr specificity.
Immunologic studies performed in a case of autoimmune chronic hemolytic anemia with low titer cold agglutinins (1/16) demonstrated that the cold agglutinins corresponded to monoclonal IgG with anti-Pr specificity. This antibody had a large thermal amplitude, being active at 37 degrees C. These unusual characteristics may define a distinct subset of chronic cold agglutinin disease.
متن کاملCase Report Splenic abscess due to brucellosis
Splenic abscess due to Brucella spp. is extremely rare. We report a case of a splenic abscess due to Brucella spp. in a 61-year-old male patient. Brucella slide and tube agglutination tests (Wright) were positive while blood culture and culture from splenic tissue yielded negative results. The abdominal ultrasonography revealed a hypoechoic intrasplenic mass 15x12 mm in diameter at the middle p...
متن کاملFatal hemolytic anemia associated with metformin: A case report
INTRODUCTION Metformin is a widely prescribed biguanide antidiabetic drug that has been implicated as a cause of hemolytic anemia in three previous case reports. We report a case of rapidly fatal hemolysis that was temporally associated with the initiation of metformin treatment for diabetes. Clinicians need to be aware of this rare but potentially serious side effect of metformin. CASE PRESE...
متن کاملConcurrent Atypical Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome and Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia: a case report
Background: Atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (aHUS) is a life-threatening and scarce disorder characterized by acute renal failure and disease, non-immune microangiopathic hemolytic anemia and thrombocytopenia, leading to end-stage renal failure or death, and consequently maybe accompanying by extra renal manifestations. Case report: We reported aHUS accompanied by autoimmune hemolytic anemi...
